This course (which in accordance with the students" needs will be held either in German or in English) is devoted to the Mycenean language, i.e. to that variety of Ancient Greek spoken in the 2nd millennium BCE as attested by the Linear B script. After an overview of the script systems in use on Crete and on the mainland in the Bronze Age, we will treat the Mycenean grammar and read texts transliterated from Linear B. Knowledge of 1st millennium Greek (either Homeric, Classic, or koine Gk.) is not required, although it is of advantage. The course time schedule can be changed according to fit the needs of the students.
