Learning outcome / core skills:
Students are familiar with global to regional scale patterns of plant diversity, the distribution of major climatic and vegetation zones (ecozones, biomes), as well as their predominant land uses and anthropogenic impacts. Students are familiar with basic aut- and synecological concepts in plant and vegetation ecology from the level of the individual plant to plant communities. They have learned to distinguish different major plant communities in Central Europe and are familiar with their specific abiotic site conditions, and their conservation significance. Students are able to apply ecological field methods and to perform basic analyses of diversity and community structure.
